Who we are

Kinley is operated by Freckle Social Inc., a Delaware C corporation. Our mailing address is 495 Jackson St #1364, Oakland, CA 94607. You can reach us anytime at katie@joinfreckles.com.

What we collect

When you sign up at heykinley.com

• Your email address (or Google account, if you sign up with Google).
• Your name, to personalize Kinley's coaching.
• Your mobile phone number — optional, only if you want Kinley to text you.
• Your SMS consent — optional, confirmed by checking the consent box if you want to receive SMS from Kinley.
• The date and time of your consent, if given.
• Basic site analytics — pages visited, rough device and browser type, and approximate location derived from IP.

When you chat with Kinley in the web app

• The content of your messages with Kinley, including anything you share about yourself and the people in your life.
• Conversation history, so Kinley can remember context across sessions.

When you text with Kinley (if you've opted into SMS)

• The content of SMS messages between you and Kinley.
• SMS conversation history, so Kinley can maintain context across check-ins.

What we don't collect

We don't access your contact list, your text messages with other people, your camera, your microphone, or your location beyond rough country/region. We only collect what's needed for Kinley to function.

Information about people you mention

Kinley is designed to help you with your relationships, which means you may share information about friends, family, or others. This information is stored only in your conversation with Kinley and used solely to help her respond thoughtfully to you. It is not used to build separate profiles of those people, contact them, or share information about them with anyone else. If you'd like to remove information about a specific person, email us and we'll handle it.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate Kinley and send the check-ins and replies you signed up for.
• Communicate with you about the service, including product updates and important notices.
• Improve Kinley — fix issues, refine how she responds, and make her more helpful.
• Keep the service safe and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share the content of your conversations for advertising.

Third parties that help us operate

We use a small set of trusted vendors to run Kinley. Each one only receives the data they need to do their job:

• Supabase — secure storage of account data and conversation history.
• Twilio — SMS and iMessage delivery.
• OpenAI — currently used for the AI processing that powers Kinley's replies. We may switch providers (including to Anthropic) as the service evolves; if we do, message content will be processed by the new provider under similar privacy commitments.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest in our database. Access to user data is restricted to authorized Freckle Social Inc. personnel. If we ever detect unauthorized access, we'll notify affected users.

SMS consent

SMS consent is optional. You can use Kinley fully via the web app without ever providing a phone number or receiving SMS.

If you choose to receive SMS from Kinley, you provide your phone number and check a consent box that reads:

"I want Kinley to text me. I consent to receive recurring SMS from Kinley, operated by Freckle Social Inc., at the phone number above. Consent is not required to sign up. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help."

Once you check that box, Kinley can text you. We log the time and date of your consent.

You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP to any Kinley message, or by toggling SMS off in your Account settings. We honor withdrawal requests immediately.

SMS and messaging specifics

Every SMS interaction between you and Kinley is logged for the lifetime of your account, so she can maintain context across conversations.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Kinley message. Reply HELP for help. We honor STOP requests immediately and confirm with a final message.

You can request deletion of your phone number, messages, and conversation history by emailing katie@joinfreckles.com. We'll process the request within 30 days.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email katie@joinfreckles.com and we'll handle it.

For California residents (CCPA)

If you live in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, request that we delete it, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email katie@joinfreckles.com.

For users in the EU and UK (GDPR)

Kinley is built for the US, but if you're in the EU or UK we still respect the rights GDPR gives you: access, correction, erasure, portability, restriction, and the right to object. Our legal basis for processing is your consent (when you sign up or text Kinley) and our legitimate interest in operating the service. Email us to exercise any of these rights.

How long we keep your data

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete it, we'll do so within 30 days. If an account is dormant for 24 months — no messages, no logins — we'll email you (if we have your email on file) to confirm you want to keep the account. If we don't hear back within 30 days, we'll delete it.

Children

Kinley is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has signed up, please email us and we'll remove their data.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top and let you know — by email if we have yours, and by a notice on this page. Continuing to use Kinley after a change means you accept the updated policy.
